Adventures In Missions Blog Entry:

                From participant- Josiah Aakre

Me and my youth group were on a missions trip and we were helping out at a homeless shelter on the first day. At the shelter one of the leaders and I met a lady who was pregnant with twin boys and it was also her birthday. We got to know a little but about her and found out she was in a bad situation with her fiancé.

Eventually she had to leave to go do something and my leader had to go prepare food. Before my leader left, she asked me to sing happy birthday to Kelsey* (the pregnant lady) and to pray with her. So me and friends gathered to sing when she got back but she didn’t come back and it was almost time to leave.

We went and found her and ended up having the whole shelter was singing and when we were done we told her to have a nice day and went to our meeting room to leave. Just then I remembered that my leader asked me to pray with her but I didn’t want to and I had already said goodbye.

But I gathered my courage and went and asked her if I could pray for her. She said YES! So I began to pray with her.

I prayed for her twins that she was going to have and about halfway through me praying I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I finished I was amazed to see three people that were a part of the Florida group (I just met them today) had joined me and were supporting me. Kelsey* said thanks and looked relieved.

She asked for our names and asked if we could be there tomorrow. I said yes but that unfortunately wouldn't be back because we served other ministries the rest of the week. I am sure that we made an impact on her but the biggest impact on me was that half of our group from a different state joined with me in prayer. I think that is a great lesson about how strong Christian fellowship is.
